Elixir of the Gods – Belgian Beer
December 17, 2018Turning off the forest path and into a field and suddenly finding oneself surrounded by the forts of the Liège fortress ring dating to WW2, almost untouched with not a single person around, was truly one of the highlights. Just finding the place is a feat unto itself! Next, back into the forest and a big climb to a high point overlooking the Albert canal and the surrounding Dutch, Belgian and German countryside was breathtaking.
Thirsty? You're never far away from a patio serving a delicious local cold beer. Hungry? We'll just duck into a three-hundred year old trout farm and have a plate of smoked trout and vegetables and watch the swans and ducks enjoying the day before getting back on the bike.
If you like to be away from the crowds and off the beaten track while getting a bit of a workout - but not too much - this is the tour for you. After a couple of days I felt like we had just scratched the surface of this wonderful play land of touring and tasting. I will be back!
