Day 1 – Exploring Maastricht
After settling into your accommodations in the oldest city in the Netherlands you will meet up with your touring team to familiarize yourself with our bikes and the city.
We will provide you with a familiarization tour around town and give you a working understanding of Maastricht to help you navigate through the various neighborhoods and districts that you’ll call home for the week. This tour runs for 3-4 hours. Afterwards we will meet you for an introductory dinner and discuss the upcoming days and rides.
Day 2 - The Jeker Valley
Our first full day takes us over the St. Pietersberg hill south of Maastricht and ride through some stunning beech woodland glades, top out on the overlook and drop down to the Belgium river locks. We ride up and down the ridge lines and pass by artist hideaways and WWII ramparts of Fort Eben Emael.
For lunch we stop at a charming out-of-the way Château for a delightful meal, some cave exploring and a panoramic view over the Jeker river valley. We ride past the NATO headquarters bunker that coordinated ground forces against a Soviet land invasion threat for over 50 years. We’ll top out once again and ride along the Dutch wine producing vineyards back into Maastricht.

Day 3 - The Marl Valley
The third day is a rousing excursion through the big steep and deep landscape of southeast Limburg. We ride into the Dutch high country affectionately known as “Little Switzerland". We traverse through meadows and pastureland along freshwater streams, forests paths, old fruit orchards and enchanting centuries-old rural homesteads all with astonishing hillside views.
Our lunch stop is a cozy cafe nestled in the deep woods that was voted as having the “best outdoor terrace in Limburg”. Here we dine alongside the resident chickens and peacocks and choose from the 50+ varieties of regionally brewed beers on offer.
Day 4 - The Voer Valley
Our next day brings us into the far southern reaches of the Netherlands and then headlong into Belgium. Here we zigzag between the Dutch speaking Flanders and the french speaking Walloon regions.
We cross the Maas river on a bike ferry heading into a stunning tableau of ridges and valleys as we cycle up, along, down and through agricultural fields, protected forests and scenic valleys. Big views and long vistas are the rewards.
Our lunch destination is a simply enchanting spot at an old spring-fed trout farm hatchery with a focus on fresh fish, local cheese and beer! From there we meander our way back to Maastricht through a route that gives riders yet another glimpse of the glories of this back country landscape.

Day 5 - The Geul Valley
On our last day we cycle by medieval underground limestone quarries, old castles and monastic cloisters which provide fantastic vistas of the agricultural landscapes.
After lunch at a charming old castle and sculpture garden we unwind a bit after several days on the bike at the Thermae 2000 resort. This spa and wellness complex offers visitors a full compliment of indoor/outdoor - heated pools, saunas and steam rooms. It is a bit of a self-indulgent reward for our time on the bike.*
All relaxed, we ride along the scenic Geul river back into Maastricht and Thursday evenings are especially lively as shopping is extended until 20:00 hours and the bars, cafes and restaurants bustle with activity.
*Thermae 2000 is optional. We can also extend our time on the bike.
