Old castles, hamlets, and farmsteads are all spread out over this beautiful landscape.
At the heart of it lies the old medieval capital; Maastricht, the oldest city of the Netherlands.
Also known as biking paradise thanks to its varied landscapes, rolling hills and off road trails, South Limburg sits on the three border point of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium (both Dutch and French speaking sides) leading to an interesting mixture of unique history, culture, and cuisine.
The locals live gentle country life in a land that is picturesque, charming, and full of surprises at every turn.

The E-Bikes
Guest will be riding on electric L1 Trek bikes. These bikes have thicker tires and are suitable for more off pavement terrain.
For those who would like the extra comfort and power we also provide our personal customized touring bikes for an additional fee.
Lodging
Guest will stay on a beautiful old medieval mill farm on the Voer river.
16 guest will be sharing an apartment with their own two-person room.

Day 1 - The hills of the Jeker Valley

Leaving Outdoor Rec

Arrival in Maastricht
We leave at 07:00 AM from the Outdoor Recreation Center heading towards the Netherlands.
At 11:00 we meet up in Maastricht to pick up our bikes. We take some time to get fitted and test out the e-bikes.

Lunch at the Dormio

Riding along the Albert Canal
We sit down for some lunch and get acquainted with the group before heading of on our journey.
This canal is fed by the Maas River and helps cargo boats travel from Liege to Antwerp. Carved from old limestone rock it has left a monolithic yet beautiful impression.

Château Neercanne

The fort Eben Emael
A unique old castle that houses an impressive wine collection inside limestone caves. From here we also make a quick stop at the former NATO headquarters.
On top of Eben-Emael sits a huge bunker complex that was once the biggest and strongest Belgium stronghold during WWII. The story of how a small group of Germans paratroopers took over the fort might surprise you.

Crossing the Maas river

Meschermolen
From Belgium we cross the Maas River into the Netherlands sailing over on a bike ferry. In the town of Eijsden we make a quick stop at the local castle.
Lodging is located in an beautiful old medieval mill farm. Here we will be glamping in luxurious tipi tents out in the field.

Dinner in Mesch

Free time
Once settled into your accommodations, guest can visit the local pubs for some delicious Belgium beers and restaurants in Mesch; the first town in the Netherlands to be liberated by the Nazis. Other options are self prep or BBQ on location of lodging.
After dinner, guests are free to settle down and relax around the farm.
Day 2 - The hills of the Voer Valley

Breakfast at Meschermolen

Beer monastery of Val Dieu
At 07:30 we have a continental breakfast so we are ready to face the day at 8:30.
We visit a 800 year old monastery famous for producing its own beer. We take a walk around the domain and visit the gardens, church and monastery.

Lunch and tour at the Commanderie

The Hills of Limburg
A beautiful castle domain from 1242 with locally produced food and drinks. The estate has a natural spring that feeds their trout farm (1885) and is still used to this day by their restaurant. The highlight of the tour!
We head back into the Netherlands on a beautiful bike ride over the wavy plateaus of Crapoel and Margraten.

Back to Wiesbaden
We ride through the heart of Maastricht, the oldest and most charming town of the Netherlands, as we make our way back to our endpoint.
Arrive back at the bike rental location at 17:00. Estimated arrival in Wiesbaden is 21:00.
